Witkey is the Chinese word for crowdsourcing and (thanks to sites like TaskCN.com, Zhubajie.com and Witkey.com) Witkey might be (already) bigger business in China than crowdsourcing is in the US, UK, Australia or anywhere else in the world.
DesignCrowd CEO Alec Lynch recently gave a presentation at the 2010 Witkey and Crowdsourcing Conference in China on 'Witkey' and its effect on businesses worldwide.
See what Alec had to say in full:
A key point, related to Witkey (Chinese sites) vs Crowdsourcing (English speaking sites) was this:
Crowdsourcing sites (like DesignCrowd.com) are extremely popular in the West. In China only one third of its population has access to the internet but we estimate 1.5% of those people are using witkey sites i.e. China displays a large appetite for using the crowdsourcing model. Its top crowdsourcing site (Zhubajie.com has 4M workers - double the size of what the leading English speaking site offers).
A key finding, related to online logo design in China, was this:
What's even more interesting is that a large number of logos (8 out of 9) being created on Chinese Witkey sites, require English. This is incredible considering less than 1% of the population speaks English!
In summary, witkey = crowdsourcing in China and crowdsourcing + witkey is changing the world.
