As big fans of the cult TV series Game of Thrones, we thought it would be fun to see famous company logos as GoT / Wall St 'house' banners and poster designs. Imagine Goldman Sachs as the Lannister's, Exxon Mobil as the Dothraki or Google as Highgarden. Designers were invited to redesign company logos as Game of Thrones house banners.
The poster design contest received nearly 50 submissions and some of the best featured big brands like Google, Instagram, Facebook, Microsoft, McDonald’s and Apple. Designers used irreverent, humorous copy to in their banners. Notably, the bold graphics reflect a leaning towards the popular 'flat' design trend from 2013 as adopted by Microsoft, Google and Facebook.
Riffing on House Stark's motto "Winter Is Coming", designers generated creative taglines like "Coffee is Coming" for Starbucks, and "Obesity is Coming" for McDonald's house banners. Replacing the unofficial motto for House Lannister (A Lannister Always Pays His Debts), UK designer Ardesigns, redesigned the banner for Exxon Mobil with the house motto "A Lannister Always Fills His Tank". Poster Artwork from this contest was picked up by media with major features in Buzzfeed and Design Taxi, BandT and a hat tip from LinkedIn blogger Melissa Matlin for the clever "trendjacking" campaign.
